Maccabi Tel Aviv – Dinamo 1-3 (Europa League, Matchday 2)
After two rounds played, Dinamo topped the Europa League standings with a maximum six points and the best goal difference. With another brilliant performance, Dinamo "replayed" the scenario from the previous week: once again the blues faced yellow-blues and once again the Zagreb side won with confident and solid play by an identical 3-1 scoreline. At the start, they defeated Turkish side Fenerbahçe at Maksimir Stadium, and this time, in the 2nd round, they overcame Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, also 3-1. The match was played at the ground in the Serbian town of Bačka Topola, where the Tel Aviv team formally played with home status.
Events in the first half unfolded at lightning speed - in just five minutes we saw three goals with a complete turnaround in the score. Maccabi took the lead, and Dinamo "turned the match around" with two goals in the following five minutes.
Israeli midfielder Ben Lederman led an attack down the right flank in the 14th minute and skillfully "slipped" the ball into the penalty area behind the defence, Saied Ben Farhi made the run and managed to push it over the goal line. Dinamo "got back into the game" two minutes later in similar fashion - captain Josip Mišić on the right side intercepted a pass about twenty metres from goal and immediately sent a vertical ball into the centre, Mateo Lisica made the run and, also with his first touch, fired just under the crossbar for the equaliser.
Practically in the next attack, the blues completed a full turnaround in the score. Moris Valincić received the ball in the centre of the pitch near the right touchline, drove through almost half the pitch, and when he approached the edge of the penalty area he played a short pass back to seven metres where Dejan Ljubičić managed to place it into the near bottom corner with his right foot.
In the 72nd minute, Dion Drena Beljo led an attack down the right flank and effectively played a cross-field pass with his left foot to Ljubičić on the left, who from 17 metres delicately placed the ball into the far corner of the net.
