A powerful start, a hurricane assault on the opposition goal, five goals scored and the crossbar hit twice... In such furious rhythm, Dinamo completed one of their greatest European comebacks. The Blues outplayed Greek side Olympiacos 5-1 in the second leg of the UEFA Cup first round, a match the visitors entered with what seemed like a comfortable 3-1 advantage from the first leg played in Piraeus.

It was also a coaching duel between "old acquaintances" from their playing days: Dinamo's team was led by Rudolf Belin, while Todor Toza Veselinović sat on the Greek team's bench.

The hero of the match was Snješko Cerin with two goals, alongside impressive play and tremendous energy that he and all his teammates displayed.

Cerin reached the ball after a corner kick in the 4th minute and slammed it into the net for an early lead and an eruption in the stands. Powerful attacks followed, and before the second goal, the Maksimir fans particularly applauded when Mario Bonić powerfully launched the ball with a volley that flew just wide of the goal.

But in the 16th minute it was 2-0. Petar Bručić crossed from the right, and Senzen headed the ball into the net at the near post. Towards the end of the first half, Uruguayan Julio Losada ran into the penalty area, Branko Tucak stopped him with a foul, and Petros Karavitis reduced the deficit to 2-1 from the penalty spot, a result that once again tipped the scales in Greece's favor and guaranteed Olympiacos passage to the next round.

Shortly after, Srećko Bogdan headed the ball against the crossbar following a corner kick.

It was precisely Losada, the brilliant Uruguayan striker who had earlier won the penalty, who ultimately directed the match in Dinamo's favor. At the start of the second half, he earned his second yellow card, meaning the visitors had to continue the match with ten players.

The Greek goal's crossbar vibrated again after Bručić shot powerfully from almost the goal line. The ball rebounded from the crossbar into the hands of the Greek goalkeeper.

The Blues "reset everything" in the 63rd minute. Velimir Zajec first won and then immediately converted a penalty for a 3-1 lead for the Blues, the same advantage the Greeks had secured in the first match.

But about ten minutes later, Cerin shone again. In a furious run, he cleverly reached the ball before the Greek goalkeeper and powerfully sent it into the net. Nine minutes before the end, the Zagreb side "replayed" their second goal, but with slightly different actors: this time Džemal Mustedanagić delivered the cross, and Bonić headed the ball into the net. The visitors had a great chance shortly after when Karavitis hit the crossbar.
