A fiery match with heated passions and incidents... The derby between the blues and whites at the Koturaška ground was played out in rough fashion with an explosive atmosphere. The championship finale was played in cup format, from the quarter-finals onwards. Građanski and Hajduk met in the quarter-finals, with the Split side having won the first leg at home 3-0.

The whites progressed unscathed in the second leg as well, then defeated BSK from Belgrade in the semi-finals before Zagreb's Concordia triumphed in the final to claim the championship title.

In the quarter-final second leg between the blues and whites, the stands were almost full two hours before kick-off. However, the entire event was overshadowed by an incident in the 73rd minute.

Građanski's striker Franjo Koprivnjak fouled Hajduk's winger Vinko Viličić. The referee naturally awarded a free-kick to Hajduk, but this wasn't enough for the heated visiting supporters. One enraged Hajduk fan came down from the stands onto the pitch, approached Koprivnjak and punched him in the head. The Građanski player, though bloodied, managed to strike back. Soon other players got involved, a general brawl ensued, home fans reacted, stones flew from the stands which Hajduk players then threw back at the crowd. There were injuries in the stands. Police eventually restored order and the match continued. The stoppage lasted eight minutes...

The match itself was rough from the start, giving plenty of work to the Vienna referee with the suggestive surname – Hans Frankenstein... Građanski created the first chance in the 17th minute when Zvonimir Gajer struck a free-kick from 30 metres, with goalkeeper Bartul Čulić managing to deflect it for a corner. However, Hajduk took the lead in the very next minute. Viličić initiated the attack, Ante Bakotić continued the move, beat the defender and placed the ball in the corner. Goalkeeper Ivica Petrović could only graze it with his fingertips. Just three minutes later, the whites doubled their lead. Again Viličić came before goal, shot sharply, goalkeeper Petrović caught then dropped the ball, Josip Lin rushed in and found the net.

The blues pulled one back a minute before half-time when Josip Urbanke crossed from the corner and Koprivnjak scored with a header.

Građanski could have equalised in the 60th minute when Miroslav Mirko Kokotović ran into the penalty area and won a penalty. Urbanke took the spot-kick but goalkeeper Čulić managed to save it.

Viličić hit the crossbar in the 68th minute on the other side before the incidents provoked by the irresponsible Hajduk fan soon followed.

In the continuation of the match, the home side managed to equalise when visiting half-back Ive Radovniković handled the ball in his own penalty area, and Gajer scored from the penalty spot for 2-2. Viličić hit the crossbar from a free-kick a minute before the end.
