This was the last appearance of the Blues as representatives of the already disbanded Yugoslav league. The Maksimir club played under the hybrid name HAŠK Građanski, with Turkish side Trabzonspor as their opponent in the first round of the UEFA Cup. However, in those days football was of secondary importance. All attention, emotions, thoughts and activities were focused on defending the Homeland. Helping the most threatened areas of the Republic of Croatia, collecting donations, providing material and spiritual support were the primary activities of the Maksimir club. Few people were even thinking about football at that time. The club recorded only two official matches that autumn, both against Trabzonspor. The league season was played in shortened form and lasted only in the first half of 1992, while previously, in the autumn fixtures, the Free Croatia tournament was played.

Due to the war events, the Blues hosted Trabzonspor in Austrian Klagenfurt. The team left Zagreb on Sunday, and already on Monday air raid sirens were wailing through the city, citizens descended into shelters, and on Tuesday the aggressors attacked the Croatian capital... Clearly, news of the air raids on Zagreb reached Klagenfurt as well. In such circumstances, in such psychosis and unrest, it was difficult to think about football. Nevertheless, they had to play the match...

Trabzonspor was already leading 3-0 by the 56th minute. First, in the 25th minute, Şeyhmus Suna crossed and Polish player Jacek Cyzio scored with a header. About ten minutes later, Ünal Karaman sent the ball forward, Hami Mandıralı got to it and spectacularly scored from the first touch for 2-0.

Maksimir coach Zdenko Kobešćak changed goalkeepers at halftime. Dražen Ladić left the game at his own request due to hip problems, and Miralem Ibrahimović came on in his place. Interestingly, Trabzonspor's goal was guarded by former Dinamo goalkeeper Vukašin Petranović.

In the 56th minute, the Turks had already run away to a three-goal advantage. Karaman walked through the blue defense and scored another goal without difficulty. Željko Petrović brought Zagreb back into the game with two goals that gave the Blues an active result. First, in the 64th minute, he launched the ball under the crossbar from 20 meters, and then in the 83rd minute he scored from the penalty spot after Ogün Temizkanoğlu handled the ball in his penalty area. Later in Trabzon it was 1-1 and the Turks progressed further.
