Jozo Bogdanović scored both goals for the Blues' victory, Zvjezdan Cvetković saved his goal by "playing goalkeeper" and punching away a ball that was unstoppably flying under the crossbar into the goal, after which a penalty followed that Dražen Ladić spectacularly saved... Many interesting details were packed into this derby in which, therefore, Dinamo defeated Partizan in Belgrade 2-1.

We also remember the match for the radio commentary in which our famous reporter Ivo Tomić shined, known for the verses with which he used to send off Dinamo players... When Jozo Bogdanović shook the net, Tomić exclaimed in rhyming verses: "Dear Dinamo fans, toast and drink whisky, plum brandy or grape brandy for your Jozo."

Later, other media also adopted a similar style, in rhyming verse: "How Jozo exported Partizan's defense."

Dinamo took the lead in the 20th minute, the Blues' attack lasted a long time, captain Marko Mlinarić initiated the move deep from the right from his own half. Several passes followed before Bogdanović played a short quick one-two with Mlinarić on the left side, who skillfully returned the ball to him with his back turned to goal. Bogdanović from the center, 17 meters out, slightly to the left, skillfully placed it with his left foot into the near corner.

Soon after, Mlinarić approached the center in another brilliant run, came close to the penalty area and effectively sent the ball to the right where Dražen Besek was charging forward. However, in the one-on-one situation, Partizan's goalkeeper Fahrudin Omerović was more successful and stopped Besek's shot.

The hosts were on the verge of equalizing at the start of the second half, Vladimir Vermezović crossed from the right, Fadil Vokrri headed it. The ball was flying under the crossbar, goalkeeper Dražen Ladić was already beaten... But Zvjezdan Cvetković made a goalkeeper's save on the goal line, punching the ball away with his hand. It was, of course, a penalty. Vlado Čapljić took it, who later in his career also played for Dinamo. But Ladić saved his spot kick and thus kept the Blues in the lead.

The brilliant Ladić later also stopped Goran Bogdanović's shot from the edge of the penalty area. Dinamo increased their lead in the 54th minute. Mlinarić took a free kick from completely wide on the right side, right along the touchline, not far from the corner flag. He crossed with his left foot, Mustafa Arslanović extended the ball with his head in the penalty area, and Bogdanović, falling in the penalty area, managed to push it into the goal with his left foot.

Partizan reduced the deficit in the 84th minute. Milko Đurovski received the ball in a scramble in Dinamo's penalty area, managed to push it aside between two defenders, Nebojša Vučićević ran onto it and sent it into the net as the ball deflected off someone in Dinamo's defense on its way.

Maksimir coach Miroslav Ćiro Blažević had a special "psychological overture" before the match as he removed two players from the squad for the game. Due to disciplinary violations, Mirko Lulić and Ismet Hadžić were absent.

Dinamo played brilliantly, with three players even receiving a rating of 9 – Ladić, Mlinarić and Bogdanović. This victory came less than a month after Dinamo celebrated against Hajduk in Split with a 4-0 win.
