Dinamo started the season with four consecutive draws, then strung together three victories. This somewhat 'sluggish' start to the season was later compensated by the Blues in their unforgettable furious spring when they won the championship title.

A particularly attractive match in the autumn half-season was the city derby against Zagreb. Indeed, the city neighbours were then, just as at the very end of the season, 'sharing' the table: Dinamo was at the top, while Zagreb was at the bottom. From Dinamo's lineup, Milivoj Bračun was absent due to a red card and Stjepan Deverić who was suspended due to yellow card accumulation...

In that autumn encounter at Maksimir, the Blues scored as many as seven goals... Interestingly, the nets remained untouched until the 40th minute, but by the end of the first half, in the following five minutes, it was already 3-0.

Marko Mlinarić delivered from a free kick, Snješko Cerin received the ball and hit the goalkeeper. However, the ball bounced back to Cerin who sent it into the goal on his second attempt. Interestingly, Cerin had entered the game from the bench just three minutes before scoring the opening goal.

The Maksimir defender Zlatan Arnautović increased the score in the 43rd minute after being skillfully set up by Petar Bručić. In the very next attack, Dragan Bošnjak scored the Blues' third goal after playing a skillful one-two with Mlinarić.

In the second half, Zagreb briefly threatened as well, Drago Rukljač crossed into the box, and Mihajlo Bošnjak hit the post.

In the 68th minute it was already 4-0, Džemal Mustedanagić broke through the opponent's corridor, crossed in front of goal, and Zoran Panić controlled with his chest and skillfully scored on the next touch. An interesting sequence occurred in the 77th minute. While Dinamo's players were discussing among themselves who would take the free kick from more than 20 metres out, Arnautović ran up to the ball, though he wasn't part of the 'execution negotiations'. He ran up and – scored for 5-0.

Seven minutes before the end, Mlinarić ran into the penalty area, goalkeeper Marinko Koljanin stopped him with a foul, and Panić scored from the penalty spot. The story was concluded in the 89th minute by Emil Dragičević for 7-0.

After this match, Dinamo was at the top with 10 points, the same as second-placed Željezničar. They were followed by Osijek and Partizan who had one point fewer each.
