Dinamo celebrated in the derby in front of 45,000 spectators, defeating Red Star 2-0, and it's interesting that some media outlets had a peculiar way of rating the performance. It's nice that Branko Gračanin received a rating of 9 and that eight players earned a high rating of 8. Only two players were rated with a lower number – Ivica Kiš and Slaven Zambata, who was actually the scorer of the second goal. In some other reports, Filip Blaškovic received a 9, while only three players got an 8 – Rudolf Cvek, Branko Gračanin and Rudolf Belin.

Dinamo took the lead in the 20th minute when Krasnodar Rora crossed from the left, goalkeeper Ratomir Dujkovic only managed to graze the ball, Marijan Čerček rushed in and placed it into the goal. The Blues attacked, created chances, and controlled the match for the most part, while Red Star only threatened with one long-range shot when Dragan Džajić fired. However, that was the only flash from Red Star's star player as Cvek stopped him with brilliant reactions in this match.

The Blues came close to extending their lead to two goals already in the 29th minute. Josip Gutzmirtl raced down the right flank, crossed in front of goal, and the ball in a deceptive trajectory confused the goalkeeper and hit the crossbar. At the very end of the first half, Cvek headed the ball back expecting goalkeeper Fahrija Dautbegovic to collect it. However, the Maksimir net-minder didn't shout "mine!" so the ball flew towards the empty goal, but fortunately – over the crossbar.

At the start of the second half, in a scramble in front of Dinamo's goal, Dautbegovic dropped the ball, Milovan Đorić got to it and shot towards goal... Filip Blaškovic tried to clear it in the six-yard box, got his head to it, the ball hit the post, and then Mladen Ramljak cleared it into the field.

After that, Dinamo vigorously attacked towards goal, took control of the game, with balls flashing in front of the visitors' goal... In the 74th minute, Belin played a return pass to the edge of the penalty area where Čerček was positioned, who then skillfully crossed, and Zambata headed the ball over the rushing goalkeeper for 2-0. Although Dinamo continued attacking, the visitors threatened in the 87th minute when Zoran Antonijević headed the ball against the post.
