A celebratory atmosphere alongside a convincing victory, a tribute to Maksimir favourite Dominik Livaković, applause for Josip Šutalo on his return from injury, a furious and attractive Dinamo creating an encouraging atmosphere ahead of the Champions League group stage start when Chelsea arrived in Zagreb three days later... This was the essence of the Maksimir match in which Dinamo defeated Rijeka 3-1.

The Maksimir spectators also applauded Dinamo goalkeeper Livaković, who recorded his milestone 250th official appearance for the Blues that evening. Support was also given to Josip Šutalo, who played for the first time after 45 days out due to injury.

Dinamo opened the match furiously, creating chances, and took the lead in the 28th minute. Mislav Oršić delivered from the corner, and Rasmus Lauritsen headed the ball under the crossbar. Just a minute and a half later, Dinamo shook Rijeka's defence again after an attractive move, and ultimately their goalkeeper too. Mislav Oršić and Bruno Petković with two consecutive one-two passes outplayed the opposition defence. In the continuation of the move, Oršić cut back into the centre, and Dario Špikić at the edge of the penalty area slotted the ball into the net while falling.

Sadegh Moharrami initiated the move for the third goal in the 60th minute. He sent a cross from the right, Luka Ivanušec received it, passed it left to Oršić who placed the ball into the far top corner with his right foot from about ten metres on the first touch.

Rijeka pulled one back in the 84th minute when centre-back Nikita Vlasenko met Mario Vračić's corner kick delivery. It was a sharp cross that Vlasenko managed to reach with his foot in the scramble in front of goal and deflect into the net.
