Ferencvaros – Dinamo 1-5 (Mitropa Cup)

Five goals against the renowned Ferencvaros in the heart of Budapest, with a special flourish at the end: the fifth goal scored with a spectacular bicycle kick right under the crossbar. The Maksimir club delivered a spectacular performance in Budapest in the 4th round of the Mitropa Cup, where they outplayed Ferencvaros 5-1.

In the first two group matches, in two consecutive encounters against Juventus, the Blues earned two points: in Turin the hosts won 4-1 while the Zagreb side returned the favour on home soil with a 2-1 victory. They then defeated Ferencvaros 2-0 at home, and in their next meeting, this time at the popular NEP stadium in Budapest, a blue rhapsody followed. After just half an hour of play, the Blues were leading 3-0.

First, Slaven Zambata found the net in the third minute with a close-range strike following a corner, and shortly after, Nikola Rudić launched the ball into the net from 17 metres. Rudić was from Osijek and at that time played for Novi Sad, appearing for Dinamo as a guest player, which was naturally permitted under the Mitropa Cup regulations. Zambata made it 3-0 in the 31st minute, while Ilijas Pašić scored the fourth Dinamo goal from about ten metres in the 62nd minute. The hosts reduced the deficit in the 67th minute when Dezső Novak scored from the penalty spot after Pal Orosz was brought down in the penalty area. Just two minutes later, Rudić sealed the final 1-5 scoreline with a spectacular bicycle kick under the crossbar.

Dinamo, under coach Milan Antolković, eventually won the group with eight points, the same as Spartak Hradec Kralove from Czechoslovakia. Juventus finished third with seven points, while Ferencvaros came last with one point. The Zagreb side were then stopped by Bologna in the semi-final.
