Dinamo – Sarajevo 6-0 (Igor Cvitanović makes his debut)

After the league break, Dinamo rested, regrouped and set off on a fresh run. In the match at Maksimir, the Blues outplayed Sarajevo 6-0 in a game remembered for the debut of a then-young Igor Cvitanović, who would later become Dinamo's all-time top scorer in the history of the HNL.

This was, of course, still the Yugoslav Federal League, in its penultimate edition, and the match against Sarajevo came after a two-week break in the league calendar. Right up to that pause, Dinamo had strung together three poor results – they returned from Banja Luka with a defeat, then earned a meagre point on penalties against Rijeka at Maksimir, after which they lost in Podgorica, then known as Titograd. A point on penalties meant, of course, that in the event of a draw the players went to a shootout from the penalty spot, with the better team winning a point while the opponent was left with nothing.

After the break, the Blues fired up the jet engine. Until the end of the autumn part of the season, they went seven matches unbeaten, with five wins and two draws in which they won a point each thanks to the better performance in the penalty shootouts. Dinamo were thus autumn champions, three points ahead of second-placed Crvena zvezda. Josip Kuže led the team from the bench.

Against Sarajevo, the Blues sent 18 shots toward goal, 13 of them on target. Interestingly, five of the six goals were scored in the second half, three of them within a span of 12 minutes.

Dinamo took the lead in the 8th minute. Zvonimir Boban delivered a superb free kick, the goalkeeper somehow managed to keep the ball out, but Kujtim Shala rushed in and headed home to give the Blues the lead.

Boban then got on the scoresheet himself in the 50th minute. Mladen Mladenović set him up, and the Blues captain skilfully worked the ball into the net. Dinamo's players continued in a "first assist, then score" rhythm. Boban assisted the first goal and then scored the second, while Mladenović assisted the second and then scored the third. The Blues went 3-0 up in the 60th minute, when Shala, with a spectacular move, played in Mladenović, who placed the ball into the net with a long-range strike.

Just two minutes later, Zoran Škerjanc also scored, likewise from outside the penalty area. Boban had again cleverly set him up. The final two goals were, therefore, signed by debutant Cvitanović, with spectacular finishes in the 89th and 90th minutes. He had come on from the bench shortly before, in the 83rd.

This was, therefore, his debut in an official match in a Dinamo shirt, and it came just four days after he celebrated his 19th birthday. At the time, Cvitanović was on dual registration, also playing for Radnik from Velika Gorica.
