Derby played in difficult weather conditions, Dinamo took the lead, Hajduk turned the result around
Hajduk – Dinamo 2-1
Dinamo took the lead, Hajduk quickly equalized, and then turned the result around in the continuation of the match. Split defeated Dinamo 2-1 in the 9th round of SuperSport HNL in a derby played in heavy rain and on a waterlogged pitch, conditions that, especially in the second half, were almost on the verge of being unplayable. In the final moments, when there was practically no more play due to the completely waterlogged pitch, Dinamo was still close to earning a point, as Dion Drena Beljo headed the ball in the final seconds, but the ball was stopped by the post.
The visiting team was without captain Josip Mišić due to a red card, while the insufficiently recovered Luka Stojković entered the game only in the 63rd minute. On this occasion, Spanish winger Dani Rodriguez made his league debut, coming off the bench in the 70th minute.
Hajduk threatened at the opening of the match, Abdoulie Bamba Sanyang charged down the right wing, reached the penalty area and played a return pass to the six-yard box where Michele Šego shot first time, but over the goal.
Five minutes later the visitors created a promising opportunity, Scott McKenna, after a corner kick, headed the ball to the 'far post'. Lukas Kačavenda was waiting there, also attempting with his head, but it was too much from an angle and he couldn't find his way to the net.
The Blues took the lead in the 21st minute, Matteo Perez Vinlöf took a throw-in from the left side, the ball was received by Kirill Kravtsov, who pulled the attack and then, in the crowd, surrounded by three defenders, played a short return pass. Perez Vinlöf was there again, crossing sharply into the box from the first touch, with Beljo and Kačavenda racing for the ball. Beljo was quicker, heading the ball which then bounced off the ground under the crossbar for Zagreb's lead.
However, the home team equalized practically in the next action. On the right side of Dinamo's defense, Sergi Dominguez and Marin Šotiček battled for the ball. Zelinski referee Igor Pajač judged that contact to be a foul in favor of the home team. The free kick was taken by Šimun Hrgović, who curled it sharply into the penalty area, and McKenna awkwardly deflected the ball with his knee in the crowd, sending it into the net for the equalizer.
The home team completely turned the result around in the 59th minute. Šego skillfully controlled a long ball with his chest on the edge of Dinamo's penalty area, in the next touch played a short return pass, Sanyang ran onto it and fired powerfully from 18 meters, the ball grazed McKenna, thus deceiving goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski and rolled into the bottom corner.
In the middle of the second half, home center-back Ron Rači made an extremely rough foul on Kačavenda, catapulting him into the air with a sliding tackle, but referee Pajač only showed him a yellow card. VAR remained silent.
The home team threatened again in the 71st minute when Sanyang crossed from the right, on the other side Šotiček was alone in front of the penalty area, had open space, but didn't connect well with the ball.
The referee was forced to interrupt the match several times due to pyrotechnics and thick smoke, adding 13 minutes of stoppage time. However, in the final half hour, including added time, torrential rain so waterlogged the pitch that the continuation of the match was in question. After brief consultations, Pajač decided to continue the match and blew the final whistle after a full 16 minutes of stoppage time.
Dinamo was close to earning a point in the final attack, Beljo headed the ball in the crowd in the penalty area, which then hit the post.
