We wish our Bad Blue Boys all the best for their milestone 40th birthday! Although there were previously different interpretations regarding the exact date of the group's founding, the Boys themselves have accepted August 17, 1986, as their birthday, so we can say that BBB as an organized supporter group was born precisely then, on the day of Dinamo's victory against Hajduk in Split with a 4-0 scoreline.

The inspiration for the group's name came from the film classic "Bad Boys" starring Sean Penn in the title role.

Dinamo's brilliant performance in the derby in Split concluded with a resounding 4-0 victory for the blues with attractive and appealing play and many more chances. The mid-eighties was an era of expansion for organized supporter groups, during which the Boys particularly stood out with attractive choreography, passionate and thunderous support on Maksimir's old north stand, on the east terrace, and somewhat later on the south end, soon becoming a symbol of resistance to the system of that time.

At the entrance to Maksimir Stadium, not far from the west stand, since 1994 there has been a monument to supporters who perished in the Homeland War. Dinamo officials and team representatives light candles and lay wreaths at this very spot every year, paying special tribute to the fallen supporters. This also serves as a reminder of the events of May 13, 1990, and the never-played match between Dinamo and Red Star.

While a group of hooligans in red-and-white scarves broke chairs and stone blocks and lit fires on the south stand, police officers calmly observed it all. However, they displayed all the force of their "iron fist," muscle power and repression, with water cannons and tear gas, when Dinamo's supporter group, watching the destruction of their stadium, launched a counterattack and tried to restore order instead of the inert police. It was precisely the problem of double standards and selective action by security forces that provoked anger and outrage among supporters and ordinary football fans, which is why we still remember that May 13, 1990, as resistance to the system of that time. All of this also provoked a reaction from Maksimir's captain, current president Zvonimir Boban, which we remember as a kind of "emblematic" scene of the Maksimir events.

With the independence of the Republic of Croatia and the formation of the independent First HNL, the club's glorious name disappeared by decree, which meant a new mission: the return of the Dinamo name. During those eight and a half years that the club competed under different names, "Dinamo! Dinamo!" thundered from the stands until finally on Valentine's Day 2000, to the pride of all lovers of the blue color, the "sacred name" came back to life.
